Report from Holmfirth & District Bowling Club:

"Holmfirth & District Bowling Club were delighted to receive £5000 from Holme Valley Parish Council towards the building of a new toilet block. The Bowling Club was established in 1898 so the existing toilet facilities were certainly in need of updating; and the funding from the Parish Council, together with £10,000 from the National Lottery made the development possible. Member donations, other fundraising activities and club funds made up the rest of the funding required to complete the project. The building of a new toilet block with disabled access, and facilities for people with disabilities, is now complete. Despite a difficult year with the Coronavirus pandemic several practical hurdles were also overcome in order to complete the work.

The Club now has a facility that Members and spectators, including wheelchair users, can access. To continue to provide a supportive and inclusive community activity, open and accessible to all, it was vital that this development was undertaken. It was certainly a team effort and Holme Valley Parish Council and the National Lottery played a key part with their invaluable support. The project was managed by Club Members who also supplied labour and supported the local contractor selected to undertake the works. The works have been undertaken to a high standard ensuring it is sustainable for years to come. We are extremely grateful for all the help and support we have received and we are looking forward to an official opening when the current situation improves – and we are able to resume community social activities that we all enjoy. The Club offers competitive and social bowling for men and ladies and is always looking for new members, of all ages and all abilities. Bowling offers a fun and friendly activity and is a great way to get some exercise whilst spending time with friends and making new ones, contact the club if you’re interested in a trial."
