including the
40th Holmfirth Art Exhibition
— Sun 2nd July to Sat 8th July 2006 —
— forty creative years, forty years of charitable giving
—
artWEEK is now a local event with a national
reputation – most of the exhibitors are from this area
but visitors come from all over the country to look and
to buy. It is astounding how much artistic talent there
is locally – it is this that makes the event such a
success. . . and brings so many visitors to Holmfirth
every year.
The main Exhibition in the Civic Hall runs all week and
features work by around 400 professional & amateur
artists.
In addition there will be 24 smaller fringe venues
around the Holme Valley. A special Fringe brochure,
detailing all the venues and artists, is available at
the Tourist Information Centre now and at the Civic
Hall, and most Fringe venues, during artWEEK.
Exhibition opening times 2006
Sun 2 July & Sat 8 July
10.00 - 17.00
Mon 3 July to Fri 7 July
10.00 - 22.00
Admission to the Exhibition is only £2 (£1 concessions)
– this price allows unlimited visits during the week
(many people find that one visit isn’t enough to
appreciate all the work on display!).
Anniversary Specials
artWEEK Calendar
To celebrate our 40th Exhibition we will be publishing a
special limited-edition 18-month calendar with work by
featured artists over the years.
The calendar runs from July 2006 to December 2007 and
includes 22 artistic images kindly donated by all the
featured artists we have been able to trace from past
Exhibitions. At a price of just £10 this a unique
publication which will be a wonderful keepsake or a
beautiful gift. The calendar will be available from
Preview Evening onwards and is sure to be very popular.
No matter how quickly it sells we will not be
reprinting.
artWEEK Pot
Exhibitor and pottery demonstrator at artWEEK for many
years, Steve Ellis has volunteered to create a Grayson
Perry style pot recording notable features, events &
people connected with artWEEK during the past 40 years.
The pot will be raffled during this year’s artWEEK.
Exhibition in the Top Gallery
Also to mark the 40th Exhibiton and to celebrate this
major milestone there will be a special display in the
Top Gallery featuring work by invited artists on the
theme of ‘Ruby’, ‘Red’, or ‘Forty – to maintain the
forty theme all work will measure 40 × 40 cm.
Last year’s artWEEK was one of the most successful ever
– with sales of art work during the seven days exceeding
£93,000. The commission on this (plus money raised from
tickets, catalogues, the raffle, the tea-room and the
Fringe venues) means that we were be able to donate
£33,000 to Macmillan Cancer Relief – a terrific sum for
a local fundraising event.
No-one gets paid to run artWEEK and it couldn’t run
without the dedicated teams of volunteers who give their
time freely year after year – we wish to thank them all
for their splendid efforts in making this the biggest
fundraising event in the Valley’s calendar.
