New Bins Installed at Sands Recreation Ground

Holme Valley Parish Council, working in partnership with Kirklees Council, has funded two brand new litter bins, now installed by Kirklees at strategic locations at Sands Recreation Ground in Holmfirth. These replace the two unofficial bins that had been used informally for some time but were not part of the scheduled collection service.

The new bins are now fully integrated into the council’s regular waste collection rounds and are suitable for general litter, including bagged dog waste.

We’d like to remind residents of Kirklees Council’s guidance for dog waste:

“Please bag up and place in your grey bin only. This waste cannot be composted or recycled.
When out walking your dog, please remember to take ‘poo bags’ with you to pick up any mess, leaving the paths pleasant for other walkers. Safely bagged dog waste can now be put in any street litter bin or taken home and placed in the grey bin.”

Holme Valley Parish Council also supports responsible pet ownership through a free dog poo bag dispenser scheme, with a network of dedicated local volunteers helping to keep the dispensers stocked.

We’re grateful to the residents and volunteers who continue to help keep our community spaces clean and welcoming.
