Kirklees Community Governance Review 2026

Proposed changes in the Holme Valley Parish area.

A public consultation is now open on proposed changes to local parish arrangements in the Holme Valley as part of Kirklees Council’s Community Governance Review.

The consultation forms part of a wider review of how parish and town councils are structured across Kirklees.

What is being proposed locally?

The current proposals affecting the Holme Valley area include:

  • Changes to parish ward arrangements in the Honley area, including:
    • The merging of the existing Honley wards (Central & East, South and West) into a single Honley ward
    • Representation for this area by 6 councillors
  • An additional councillor for Brockholes ward
  • Proposed changes to ward names, including:
    • Fulstone to New Mill & Fulstone
    • Scholes to Scholes & Hade Edge
  • Dividing the existing Holme Valley Parish Council area into two separate parish councils:
    • A parish covering Holme Valley
    • A parish covering Honley and Brockholes

Community governance reviews are carried out to ensure that local council arrangements continue to reflect community identities and provide effective and convenient local governance.
