Remembrance Services

Local Parish Councillors will be attending a number of services across the Valley on Remembrance Sunday, laying wreaths on behalf of the Parish Council as a tribute to the fallen.

As this year is the centenary of the end of WW1, the Parish Council has supported a number of local organisations with small grants to organise commemorative events and projects. We have been pleased to support the Beacon Lighting event hosted by Friends of Cliff Rec, a photo project by Upperthong Church, funding for 10 Holmfirth veterans to attend an anniversary event being organised by Brass Factor and a project to produce a wall mural by Holme Valley Textile Group.

In addition, the Parish Council is hosting its own small beacon lighting event for invited representatives of our armed and emergency services on Holme Moss as part of a nationwide tribute. This event is part of Battle’s Over, an international commemoration marking 100 years since the guns fell silent at the end of World War I. Over 1000 beacons will be lit across the country including our private event on Holme Moss and the public one on Cliff Rec.
