Holme Valley Parish Council has expressed deep sadness following the passing of former councillor Greg Cropper last week.

Greg, who served three terms on the council, including a tenure as Chairman in 2017-18, is remembered for his unwavering dedication and passion for the Holme Valley community.
Current and former councillors have paid tribute to Greg’s commitment to public service. Vice Chair Cllr Tom Dixon described him as a “very friendly and kind guy with a top sense of humour,” emphasising his love for the valley.
Fellow councillors Donald Firth, Judith Roberts, and Paul Dixon echoed similar sentiments, recalling Greg as a hard-working and deeply invested representative whose views were always worth listening to.
Beyond his council duties, Greg played an integral role as Chair of the Holme Valley Land Charity, where he advocated for improvements in his Upperthong ward. His contributions included the enhancement of Wolfstones Trig Point, transforming it into a more inviting destination for walkers. He was also known for introducing a ‘welly-wanging’ contest, a lighthearted competition that drew local and national attention.
Reflecting on his legacy, Cllr Tom Dixon shared heartfelt words: “Greg was a great guy and he definitely was taken too soon.”
Holme Valley Parish Council extends its condolences to Greg’s family, recognising his lasting impact on the community he cared for so deeply.
