Holme Styes Reservoir

Published: 24 July 2020

Notification from Yorkshire Water of survey work at Holme Styes Reservoir, Holmfirth:

"We own Holme Styes reservoir, the reservoir is no longer used for water supply but is subject to the Reservoirs Act 1975, and subsequent amendments of the Floods and Water Management Act 2010.
It's operated, inspected and maintained in accordance with legal requirements and has, over its 180-year life, suffered problems that have led to extensive remedial works namely the emergency repairs which occurred in 2014.
You may be aware that we've been looking into its long-term future. We know that it's a local beauty spot, popular with walkers and that the local community is keen to keep the reservoir. I'm sure you'll be pleased to hear that the reservoir will stay as a body of water and rather than decommission it we'll carry out work to strengthen the embankment.
Before work can start on this project, we need to carry out some survey work on the embankment. Our contract partners Morrisons, Howlands and Geo-technic will be doing this for us, and they'll be on site from around mid-August for 3 weeks. Working hours will be from 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Their work will involve drilling small holes in various places of the embankment using specialist equipment and recording the condition of the material they find.
They'll be a welfare cabin for the team situated on our reservoir complex with clear signage showing where the team are working. Access on Cote Lane or the adjacent access road will not be affected, and no footpaths will be closed.

Just to make you aware you may see Northern Power Grid working near the reservoir, they will be diverting some power cables to enable delivery of the project.
This work doesn't impact on your water services and we don't need access into your home. Always be aware of bogus callers and don't let anyone into your property without checking their ID card.
We're currently working away from the office so if you do have an urgent question about this work please call our contact centre on 0345 1 24 24 24 quoting Capital YW.200919 and they'll arrange for a member of the team will call you back.

Once we've carried out the survey, we'll start to plan the delivery of the main project. We expect this to start early 2021 and I'll write to you again to confirm this."
